DE DOLLE OERBIER – OH YEAH!
Now this was a great surprise – like the Fort Collins beer we reviewed yesterday, it was enjoyed immensely at the Homewood Suites in Overland Park, Kansas just over a month ago – I’m only now cleaning out my beer tasting notes after a few weeks of inactivity on this blog. It’s not like we stopped drinking or anything! DE DOLLE OERBIER from Esen, Belgium, just looked right sitting there on the shelf of some random liquor emporium I wandered into – I mean look at that label. It sung to me. The beer was wonderful – a strong reddish/brown ale with a huge head of foam that I really had to wait 4-5 minutes for before I could start drinking. It’s a subtle beer for sure, but if you’re paying attention – and I suggest ya do – you’ll get dates, caramel, some oaked/oakey flavors, and of course some spiciness in the Belgian style. I’m going to learn everything I need to know about Browerij De Dolle and their products posthaste – anyone have anything to share about this unit & their beers? Oh – and HBJ calls DE DOLLE OERBIER a big 9/10, and highly, highly recommends that you find a bottle yourself.

This brewery is insane! I have often been attracted to their labels also. They're pretty available in NYC so I've been lucky enough try a few including the Reserva (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/201/39859) which was really one of the most remarkable beers I've ever had the opportunity to try, highly recommended.
Oh man I love De Dolle. Us NYers are pretty lucky.
I agree the reserva is fantastic, and I like Dulle Teve a lot http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/201/1116. I also recently had Bos Keun http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/201/634 which was also out of this world. Infact I've never even had a "good" beer by them, everything has been out of this world.
One of my favorites as well. Don't forget Ara Bier. Bright refreshing, and dry hopped with Nugget, if you can believe that. Haven't had one of those in a while.
I just recently tried their Export Stout (picked up at Plum Jacks), awesome deep and rich with lots of belgian yeast character. Big, if I remember correctly like 9%, but masked well.
Not always easy to find in the Bay Area. Seems to come and go, that is.
